It’s rare that a musician as influential as Ian Paice agrees to do “clinics” for other musicians, but that’s just what the longtime Deep Purple/session drummer began doing during the late ’90s – as documented on the 2002 DVD Not for the Pros. The two-hour-long DVD contains countless bits of advice from Paice and also others who have worked with the drummer, which will help drummers of all ages (everything from the right type of kit you should select to getting good drum sound while recording and on-stage).
The DVD is comprised of several different sections – including a first-hand look at a clinic Paice did in front of a room full of fans in England, as well as numerous interviews, bits of live performances, a photo gallery, and a biography. Unlike the majority of other instructional music videos (which begin to drag after awhile), Not for the Pros is paced well and can be enjoyed by non-drummers as well – especially longtime fans of Deep Purple.
This DVD shows him talking about drumming, making of drums and also lots of footage of him playing live. It is a great DVD for any Purple fan, especially if you like the drumming. A very well done production of life behind the kit. See the man behind the sticks. Ian Paice – the man, the myth, the legend.
