You will Learn how to play instrumental solos and how to begin and end each song. While studying Freds arrangements of these Paul Simon hits you will also learn a lot about fingerpicking: backup patterns, soloing ideas and various chord positions. Each song is played at regular speed and then slowed down with a split-screen. That gives you a close-up look at the picking as well as chording hand. All the Arrangements are clearly written out in tab and music in the accompanying booklet along with lead sheets and lyrics.
Each of these instructional DVDs offers a good solid hour of insight into covering the tunes of their respective subjects. Both are taught by Fred Sokolow, an experienced, low-key instructor with a sense of humor. He chooses songs from varied periods of Simon’s and Dylan’s careers. Sokolow shows how to pick patterns while singing as well as how to create instrumental solos, and ideas for beginning and finishing each song. The patterns are clearly demonstrated on screen and there is accompanying written tab and notation.
